Onwards and Onwards and Onwards.

So. Been a while since I’ve blogged.

It hasn’t been a while since I’ve written though. I’ve been beavering away, oh yes. I’ve had a few ideas recently. Not sure if any of them are brilliant, but hey ho. More on that soon. Gonna go ‘n’ blog the different aspects quite soon.
I’ve also been submitting to Newsjack. Got a little bit further this time, in that I had something recorded- one of my one liners was incorporated into someone else’s sketch, but the sketch itself got cut. Damn it. There’s three episodes left, so there’s still hope.

Also, it’s November soon. Which means NaNoWriMo. I’m going to at least attempt the beast a bit more this time (2011 saw me distracted by the Red Planet Prize screen writing competition so I ended up concentrating on that. This year I still have the old plan from last year’s idea. 50,000 words do not maketh a novel, really, but It’s worth having that aim to try and get the first 50,000 done. Or perhaps 50,000 words including an ending, to later be worked upon to make longer.

Either way it’s something that keeps people on their toes.

So there. TV, Radio, AND novels I have rolling about in my head. Only thing missing is a play. I don’t think I’ll be attempting that soon.

The Tracksuit (One Page Script Competition Entry)

So, last week I entered a wee competition to write a one-page screenplay based upon the London Riots. It didn’t have to be set in the midst of riots, but set around the time and linked to the real riots.

Basically, alongside 200 other people I didn’t get shortlisted, but since plenty of people are uploading theirs to their blogs and such, I thought I would too.

It’s not fantastic, in fact it’s not particularly good but I did write it in only the space of 20 mins, and found myself able to come up with something fast, which sort of pleased me, heh.

So, here it is… “The Tracksuit“.

Submission! The first of many…

So I’ve done it. Submitted a script. It’s to the BBC Laughing Stock Comp. I can’t really go into the details of it with ANYONE until I know the score next month. Partly because I shouldn’t, partly because I don’t want to yet. Needless to say it was written quicker than other stuff I’ve written, and works narrative wise. PLUS IT HAS SWEARING IN IT.

So yes, you should all know about it by April. I hope.

Up next, a shorter script for Sitcom Mission. And then for something completely different for the Red Planet Prize!

Laughing Stock! But in a good or bad way?

So, I’m finally going to take the leap and submit a script! Cue “shocked studio audience” noise!

It’s for this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/opportunity/laughing_stock_2011.shtml

A competition/scheme that I’m  entering. It’s for new sitcoms, though what I’ve written may not be funny to all that many people.. And if it were to be made there would be no studio audience, nooo!

So yes, potentially rubbish, but it’s worth a try.

Amazon Studios: Scriptwriters Beware!

That’s something I’m going to avoid, oh yes! Why?

Plagiarism ahoy! I’ve had no success with scripts yet but I hate the idea that I might write something good, upload it there, and someone get somewhere with it. The Problem with Amazon Studios is that it’s very public, and who is to say someone else won’t take your work, and eff it up? Someone else could make a hash of it, and others will read it, thinking it’s yours.

Not to mention the horrible 18-month option. As soon as you upload it and register it, You can’t sell it for 18 months! That in itself is a massive problem.

My opinion.. Don’t do it! I may not be a professional writer or have sold anything/had anything produced, but even I know this is a terrible idea. I may be very keen to have something commissioned, but I’m not that desperate.

Of course about 6 people read this blog, so blegh. But still, I’m not touching this at all.

As for other stuff.. NaNoWriMo, I has quit! So yeah, I did get several thousand words in, but I dropped behind and decided to do scripts. There’s a few opportunities I’ve seen on BBC Writersroom that even I might have the tiniest chance with.

Wish me luck y’all!

Yeah, I’m doing that this year! (For those that don’t know.. http://www.nanowrimo.org/)

50,000 words in the space of a month. Gonna be a hell of a struggle, but I reckon I can have a crack at it. I’m way too complacent when it comes to being creative. I have a rough idea of what I’m writing, and just that. In other words, I’m winging it.

Why do I do these things to myself?
